Extract from the masterplan for Blackfriars urban extension at Battle, East Sussex

Blackfriars

Battle, East Sussex

Urban Extension
and Strategic Promotion

JB Planning Associates have been successful in securing the allocation of land in the Blackfriars area of Battle, East Sussex for a mixed-use development comprising of at least 220 houses, a new primary school and extensive areas of public open space as part of a comprehensively planned urban extension of the town.

An initial masterplan was used as the vehicle for influencing the preparation of the first district wide Local Plan for Rother and the inclusion of the site as an allocation in the deposit draft.

The site is washed over by the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and substantial evidence has been brought together to demonstrate that the development of the site would have no adverse impact on the scenic beauty of the area and the scheme was acceptable in relation to all other environmental and sustainability considerations.

An outline planning application, supported by an Environmental Statement and detailed statement on planning, design, flooding, ecology, traffic appraisal and sustainability was submitted in June 2007. The application has been approved subject to the completion of a Section 106 agreement.
